Many of these places along the road have are listed among the “Most Beautiful Villages in France” and the “Most Beautiful Detours in France”, such as Riquewihr, Eguisheim, Hunawihr, Ribeauvillé and Kaysersberg (winner of “France’s favourite village” in 2017).
Other must-visit places in the Alsace countryside include the Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg near Sélestat, the site of the three Châteaux du Haut-Eguisheim, the Kayersberg Valley, the Route des Crêtes linking Cernay to Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, and the Ballons d’Alsace Regional Natural Park, one of the largest of its kind in France.
